Pre-surgical Tests

Pre-surgical tests are a series of studies that the patient must perform before any aesthetic surgery; these tests allow the doctor to evaluate the physical condition of the patient.

The studies are ordered by the physician and the results allow assessing if the patient is able to undergo a cosmetic surgery and whether to take special precautions before, during and after surgery.

The following is a list of general studies requested by the doctor before any surgery:

ü  Complete hemogram to rule out anemia or hiden infections.
ü  Complete coagulogram to ensure that the patient has good coagulation
ü  Blood glucose level to exclude diabetes
ü  Uremia to assess kidney function
ü  HIV test to rule out the patient's immunosuppression and possible infections
ü  Surgical risk including EKG and cardiac examination to assess risk from anesthesia and whether there are preexisting conditions.

This list may vary depending on the surgical procedure that the patient wants to have performed. Thus, if the patient wants a breast augmentation done, the doctor will order a mammogram and if the surgery is rhinoplasty, the patient should perform a CAT scan (Computerized Axial Tomography) to visualize the possible deviations of the internal nasal septum.
