Breast implants are prostheses used for augmentation or breast reconstruction. They have different characteristics, according to the desired results.
The implants used vary according to the following characteristics:
Size: varies between 125 cc and 1200 cc. The right size depends on the physical characteristics of the patient, among which are the amount of breast tissue, height and desired outcomes.
Filling: breast implants can be filled with saline and silicone gel. The former contains sterile saline liquid inside, similar to the fluid that constitutes most of the human body, which fills the implant during surgery. The latter has a silicone shell filled with gel. The gel remains solid and retains the natural consistency of breast tissue.
Texture: varies between smooth or textured. Smooth implants are softer than the textured, and they move more freely in the breast pocket where the prosthesis is placed. Textured implants have a rough surface, leading to greater cohesion between the prosthesis and breast tissue.
Shape: they can be round or teardrop shape. The choice for one or the other depends on whether the patient wants a profile with more or less projection, especially in at the upper area of the breast. Teardrop shape gives more projection in the lower area of the breast and less volume in the upper area.
Our advice is that when choosing a breast implant, while taking into account the variables listed above, the patient has to have a consultation with the surgeon to decide the most suitable implant, taking into account the wishes of the patient and her physical characteristics.
Women use breast implants because they feel dissatisfied with their breasts when they are small, sagging and losing size and strength after pregnancy or weight loss. In addition to physical impairment, women may feel insecurity and low self-esteem in regards of her body.
By breast implants, plastic surgery for breast augmentation restores beauty, security and confidence.
